Monarch's Roost

Habersham Winery and the Nacoochee Valley Afternoon

October 16, 2026

Habersham Winery is about 8 minutes from Monarch’s Roost (approximate, from our Nearby page), which makes it the easiest half-day outing for a group staying with us. The winery’s website lists a tasting of 5 wines for $18 plus tax per person, and it recommends reservations for groups of 10 or more. Pair it with Hardman Farm and the Nacoochee Mound, also in the valley, and you have an unhurried afternoon with no long drives. Everything below was checked on official pages in late September 2026. Hours and prices change, so check the official site for current details.

Where is Habersham Winery and when is it open?

The winery lists its address as 7025 South Main Street, Helen, GA 30545, described as half a mile south of Helen on Highway 75 in historic Nacoochee Village. The tasting room hours it lists:

Day Tasting room hours
Monday to Thursday 11 AM to 7 PM
Friday and Saturday 11 AM to 8 PM
Sunday 12:30 PM to 7 PM

The winery notes that tastings end 30 minutes before closing. It describes itself as one of Georgia’s oldest and largest wineries, producing wines “since 1983,” which is the winery’s own claim. Some third-party listings show different hours, so the winery’s site is the one to trust.

What does a tasting cost, and can a large group go?

The winery’s Visit page lists $18 plus tax per person, including 5 wines. It says reservations are not required for tasting but are recommended for groups of 10 or more. With a group of up to 14, send a request ahead and choose a mid-afternoon slot rather than a Saturday rush. Tour buses and large tour groups have their own rule, requiring reservations two weeks ahead.

Who can come, and what about dogs and driving?

The winery says children and people under 21 are allowed in the tasting room, and asks that young children stay with adults. Georgia’s minimum age for drinking alcohol is 21, so plan something else for younger guests. Name a designated driver before you leave the cabin, and please drink responsibly.

For dogs, the winery says only service animals are allowed inside, while leashed dogs are allowed outside and in the pavilion. That matters because Monarch’s Roost takes dogs (up to 2, $50 per pet fee, no cats). See our dog-friendly guide for leash rules around the area.

What else fits in a Nacoochee Valley afternoon?

The Nacoochee Indian Mound and Hardman Farm State Historic Site are also in the Sautee Nacoochee valley. Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites lists these details:

  • Hours. March to December, open seven days, 10 AM to 4 PM. January and February, Thursday to Saturday.
  • Mansion tours. Thursday to Saturday, last tour at 3 PM (2 PM in January and February).
  • Grounds only. $7 without the mansion. Adult admission with the mansion is $13.
  • Groups. Group reservations are required, so contact the site before you bring 14 people.
  • Closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Our full Nacoochee Mound and Hardman Farm guide covers the history, the mound’s respectful-visit rules and the walking trail. We have not verified a drive time between the winery and Hardman Farm, so check your map app when you plan the order.

What is a sample afternoon?

Thursday to Saturday, a full valley half day

  1. Late morning. Arrive at Hardman Farm after 10 AM, walk the grounds and see the mound, or book the mansion tour (last tour 3 PM).
  2. Mid-afternoon. Head to Habersham Winery for tastings, keeping the 30-minutes-before-closing rule in mind.
  3. Evening. Back at the cabin, cook on the Weber grill, then use the hot tub, sauna and game room. Quiet hours are 10 PM to 7 AM.

Sunday, a shorter plan. The winery does not open until 12:30 PM, and the mansion tours run Thursday to Saturday, so a Sunday works best as a grounds walk at Hardman Farm followed by the winery. Check-out is 10 AM, so this fits a Sunday only if you are not driving home that afternoon, or a Saturday-to-Monday stay.

Arrival day. Check-in is 4 PM, so an early winery stop can fill the wait. Keep in mind the house rules: registered guests only, and no glass in the hot tub, so leave the bottles inside.
